Alan Rickman’s visit to Georgia – His impressions, favorite Georgian gospels and food
An iconic British actor Alan Rickman, known for his famous roles of Professor Snape in the Harry Potter films and Hans Gruber in Die Hard, passed away at the age of 69 on January 14. The star had been suffering from cancer that ultimately claimed his life. As the reports say, the actor lived such a natural lifestyle, that he even did not have a cell phone and did not know how to use a computer.

The whole world expressed its grief on social media and Georgia was no exception, especially taking into consideration the fact that the famous actor visited the country several times.

During his stay in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, in 2009 Alan Rickman presented William Shakespeare’s play Henry V in the Rustaveli Theater in Tbilisi expressing his solidarity to the Georgians after the Russian-Georgian war of August 2008.

On his third visit to Georgia, Alan Rickman did not miss the chance to listen to Georgian polyphonic gospels once again and paid a visit to the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.

Here is what the actor said about Georgian songs and food in the interview with Rustavi 2 TV in Georgia:

“Georgian polyphonic gospel is a mystery. I have no idea where this voice comes from. Even though I have listened to it for quite a long, I simply cannot understand it.

I like everything here. I love walking through
the city’s streets and I love Georgian food. Most of all I like the dish similar to mousse, chopped herbs with walnuts (pkhali). I have not tried it before and it is very delicious.

In a real life I am very different from the hero I play in Harry Potter, but as soon as I put on my black wig I instantly transform into a wizard. I don’t like when I see myself on the screen, especially if it is big one. It is quite unpleasant for me. I don’t know where to hide at that moment”, said Alan Rickman.
