Grand opening of Tbilisi Opera House – Best shots from the performance

Tbilisi’s Zakaria Paliashvili State Opera and Ballet Theatre has festively opened to public. The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Ilia II, as well as members of Cabinet and Parliament.

All the visitors said the opening of the theatre is a very important event for the country. After six-year-long renovation works, one of Tbilisi’s main cultural centers presented the most famous Georgian composer’s, Zakaria Paliashvili’s opera Abesalom and Eteri. Before the opening night began, the guests could examine historical costumes and musical scores of the aforementioned opera, as well as photos depicting the history of the legendary hall.

This time, the director of Abesalom and Eteri was Gizo Jordania and the art director – Gogi Alexi-Meskhishvili. The leading roles were performed by world-renowned Georgian singers Lado Ataneli and Tamar Iveri. Both of them were invited especially for this event.

Apart from them, the roles were performed by other leading soloists – Teimuraz Gugushvili, Armaz Darashvili, Nikoloz Lagvilava, Khatuna Chokhonelidze, Tea Demurishvili, Irina Alexidze, Marika Machitidze, Nino Chachua, Kakha Tetvadze, Gocha Datusani. The conductor was Zaza Azmaiparashvili; the choreographer – Iliko Sukhishvili; All the costumes were made by ‘Samoseli Pirveli’.

Abesalom and Eteri was premiered on January 30. Following performances are scheduled for February 2 and 21.
