Arabic translation of ‘The Knight in the Panther’s Skin’ presented in Egypt
Georgian epic poem The Knight in the Panther’s Skin was published in Arabic by the initiative of the embassy of Georgia in Egypt. With the close cooperation of Georgian embassy and Egypt’s Ministry of Culture, the project lasted for one year.

As Georgian Foreign Ministry informs, the presentation of the most famous Georgian epic poem, as well as subsequent seminar was held on January 31, at the 47th Cairo International Book Fair. This event is considered to be the biggest ant the most important book exhibition in Arabic world.

As part of the presentation, the ambassador of Georgia in Egypt, Archil Dzuliashvili addressed the public, among them the representatives of Egypt’s General Organization of Books, members of diplomatic corps, as well as cultural elite and media.

As the ambassador of Georgia said, in order for the Georgian alpahabet to become more popular in the world, the works of Georgian calligraphist, Pikria Chabukiani
and Sergo Kobuladze’s illustrations are part of this Arabic edition.

Tinatin Mkheidze, the grand daughter of a Georgian philanthropist, Levan Sagharadze who lived and worked in Syria in 1970s, will also address the public. It was Sagharadze who led the project for The Knight in the Panther’s Skin to be translated into Arabic and published in Syria in 1984.

The preface to the new Arabic edition is written by a famous Georgian scholar, Guram Chikovani. The Knight in the Panther’s Skin in its Arabic translation will be sold at the biggest bookstores of Egypt.
