Khibula, a new movie by a well-known Georgian director Giorgi Ovashvili, dedicated to the final days of the first Georgian President Zviad Gamsakhurdia, is completed.

The first trailer of long-awaited film is already available on the internet. This short footage features the fragments from the movie that tells the story of Georgia’s first president after he fled the country, following the military coup of 1992. Elected in 1991, Gamsakhurdia was soon forced by a coup d’etat to choose exile and although he returned, political clashes forced him into exile again. The film follows him in the Georgian mountains, accompanied and pursued by both friends and foes. The circumstances of his death are still unclear.

The film is based on real facts and stories. The script is written by Roelof Jan Minneboo and George Ovashvili. The lead role of the president is played by Iranian actor Hossein
Mahjoub. The film is named Khibula after the village in Georgia’s western Samegrelo region.

George Ovashvili has earned recognition for his films The Other Bank (2009) and Corn Island (2014), both of which were presented at a number of film festivals throughout the world and awarded with many prestigious prizes.

The audience will soon see if the movie unveils the truth about the mysterious death of Georgia’s first president.
