Georgia will also have a competing boxer in the approaching Summer Youth Olympics. Giorgi Kharabadze (69 kg) showed the best result among the Georgian boxers in the world youth championship in Sofia, Bulgaria. To be licensed for Nanjing 2014, an athlete had to be among the first six contenders. Maximum three licenses were allotted to each country. Kharabadze won two battles and lost in the 1/8 finals from his Uzbek rival. It seemed like the chance to go to Nanjing was lost, but fortune was on our side. The Ukrainian team won four licenses for Nanjing-2014 – one beyond the allotted national quota. Ukraine refused from participating in this particular weight category and as a result, the license was awarded to Giorgi Kharabadze.
