“Christianity is a religion of love but it hates sin” – Christmas Epistle of Georgia’s Catholicos-Patriarch
Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia His Holiness Ilia II has addressed the parish with his Christmas epistle at a special Christmas delivered by him along with members of the Holy Synod and other priests at St. Trinity temple at 00:00.

His Holiness reminded the parish that Christianity hates sin, and Christ clearly separates kindness and evil.

Ilia II addressed orthodox people to help those who are on the path of sin.

‘We should show them our love and try to make them see they are wrong,’ the epistle reads. ‘It is not easy to do it today when the quality of arrogance is so high that people cannot bear to be criticized. We often see others’ sins and forget ours. Old Greeks say ‘know yourself’. Some think it is easy and has no idea that in reality, a person is of three types: 1. As he sees himself; 2. As other see; 3. Who the person he really is. It is very hard to find out the third one as our selfish ego always justifies our weaknesses and incorrect steps,’ Ilia II says.

‘It is clear that the world is losing a feeling of true love and falsified feelings replace the true value,’ Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II also said in his Christmas epistle.

According to His Holiness short-period affection is called now love but it significantly differs from true love being focused only on its own interests and exists until this or that person’s selfish intentions encounter any threat. ‘Of course, relationships based on such feelings are fragile and have nothing in common with real, devoted love,’ His Holiness remarked.

According to the Patriarch such ‘love for show’ is the very reason for breaking families nowadays.

According to Ilia II, a couple cannot respect each other and take responsibility together. They have no deep love and reject their responsibilities because of even a little problem and start searching for a new ‘love.’ ‘Some of such families do not break but children living there are brought up in permanent quarrel and controversy that cause their stress,” says the epistle.

The Patriarch emphasizes that marriage is one of the secrets of church.

‘Man and woman living together represent unity for achieving the condition of ‘being like god’… The process reveals itself by means of patience, devoted love,’ the epistle reads.

The Patriarch advised the parish to listen to each other and reject radical
thinking as well.

‘God is merciful. The main thing is to know ourselves, realize where the border is, where there should be a limit for our action and freedom in order to avoid negative results. Let’s listen to each other, reject radical thinking, reject our weaknesses in order to begin new life.’

‘I congratulate you all on Christmas and New Year and wish that we should be purified by means of these days’ blessing… Love and make each other happy, then God will love us and give us salvation’ the epistle reads.
