In 1906 the first Miss World was held, however it was called beauty pageant-like contest back then and was carried out
within the frames of Flower Festival that was annually celebrated in Paris. 15-year-old girl from Georgian noble family named Ekaterine Tarkhan-Mouravi was selected as the most beautiful woman. It is worth mentioning that along with her, the contest’s participants included daughters of the Austrian monarch and an Italian millionaire, yet Georgian lady surpassed them with her beauty and became the first Miss World.
As the granddaughter of the first Miss World says, her parents raised her grandmother as a real noblewoman. When Ekaterine became an adult, her parents took her to Paris to learn manners, French culture and French language. Tarkhan-Mouravi family lived in Paris from 1903 to 1907, traveling to Pas-de-Calais in summer.

“My grandmother’s coach was decorated with blue flowers and she wore a blue dress, which perfectly accentuated her blue eyes and blond hair. She was barely 15 years old back then. Daughters of Austrian Emperor and a sister of an Italian millionaire also participated in the contest, but the public named the Georgian nobleman’s daughter a winner. As a prize, Ekaterine was given a diamond-studded brooch, that she eventually lost upon arriving in Georgia.
Ekaterine, who was used to European manners, after arriving in Tbilisi from Paris, she left her luggage to the Tbilisi Railway workers and ordered to bring her things at the address she gave them, however no one brought her luggage and subsequently her precious diamond brooch was lost together with the rest of her belongings.
