Georgian Hogwarts – 19th century Women’s Gymnasium in Tbilisi
Since the dawn of 19th century Tbilisi started to expand and the city's architecture transformed step by step. Many new kinds of buildings built in the European style started to emerge beside the traditional Georgian houses with large balconies during this period. Such movements as Classicism, Neo-Baroque, Renaissance, Gothic Revival and Moorish Revival were very popular and widespread back then. Among Tbilisi’s distinguished buildings that have endured centuries is former Women’s Georgian Gymnasium #3 that stood where the city wall
was passing. At the end of 19th century several educational institutions functioned in Tbilisi. As a rule, boys and girls used to study separately back then. The Noble Women’s German school, present Authorized School #6, located where Asatiani and Dadiani Streets meet, in the historical district of Sololaki, represents historic and cultural monument that stands out for its rare architectural design. At first sight, this unique building might remind of Hogwarts, for its specific architecture and peculiar façade. The building that was constructed in 1893 in the Gothic Revival style has retained some kind of mystical atmosphere up to present. In addition, the gymnasium included Lutheran church in it. Over the course of history the building was used for different purposes. It served as an infirmary during the First and second World Wars.

During the soviet times there was located Russian School #66, later it was home to a law school and in 2007 it was transformed into a Georgian School #58 and in 2011 Authorized School #6 was opened that still functions. The building underwent serious restoration works that helped to preserve its unique architecture. The building has retained the old marble staircase with beautiful railings,  wooden doors and windows. One of the main features of the building, the large event hall, where different kind of celebrations used to take place was renovated as well. As sources state, there used to stand an organ till 1970s. The school is listed among cultural heritage monuments.
