Georgian author’s book earns recognition at Leipzig Book Fair
Georgian author Naira Gelashvili and her book “I am the one” were in the center of attention at Leipzig Book Fair in Germany. Renowned Georgian writer was invited as the main and honorable guest at the festival. It is noteworthy that this year, for the first time, contemporary Georgian author was hosted by a prestigious literary platform “Blue Sofa” (Das Blaue Sofa) within the framework of which, famous writers introduce their books and elaborate on them in front of public. This time Naira Gelashvili presented her successful book and spoke to the public. Her book “I am the one” was translated into German by a famous printing house Verbrecher Verlag Jörg Sundermeier in 2016.

As writer and translator Giorgi Lobzhanidze, who was present at the book fair as well, reports Naira Gelasahvili was the main hero at the fair and the presentation of the book became the central event at the festival.

“The presentation of the book’s German translation was attended by a large number of people. The tasteful and simultaneously demanding German public listened to the Georgian author for 40 minutes breathlessly. Naira Gelashvili’s book was unanimously recognized as the main subject at the book fair”, Giorgi Lobzhanidze says.

Apart from Naira Gelashvili, 14 Georgian authors were also featured at the festival and had an opportunity to introduce their works to the German readers. Among them were Ana Kordzaia-Samadashvili, Basa Janikashvili, Giorgi Lobzhanidze, Eka Kevanishvili and many others.

The Leipzig Book Fair is the second largest book fair in Germany after the Frankfurt Book Fair. The fair takes place annually in the northern part of Leipzig, Saxony and it plays an important role in the book market internationally. The participation of contemporary Georgian writers in the fair was organized by Georgian National Book Centre.
