A must watch video! - Discover the history of Georgia through its alphabet

According to the Georgian National Book Center, on October 15, 2017, Georgia will be officially given the title of the Honorable Visitor of the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018 by France.

Specially for r this occasion, the Georgian National Book Center and the Ministry of Culture jointly created a short animated video in which the letters of the unique Georgian alphabet unveil the history of Georgia.

The video titled Georgia Made by Characters, presents each letter of the alphabet that conveys
certain cultural, historical or social meaning related to Georgia.

Letter A

The contemporary Georgian alphabet attracts the interest of many people around the world for its unique design and shapes. Now its 33 letters have been used to explain some of the key points about the country.

In video letter 'B' stands for Basiani — the name of a historic battle where Georgians defeated the enemy and Bassiani the name of Tbilisi's most famous underground club , whereas letter'G' stands for Galaktioni, the name of one of the greatest Georgian poets.

Letter M - Medea. Little is known that this character of Greek mythology comes from Colchis - present day western georgia

As a reminder, the three writing systems of the Georgian alphabet —were granted the national status of cultural heritage in Georgia in 2015 and included on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016. The one from these three scripts called Mkhedruli ( "cavalry", "royal" ), that is featured in the video, is used in modern writing.
