Georgian director's film selected for the Cannes Film Festival Meeting
Georgian film director Mariam Khachvani's film Dede was selected at the 30th meeting of the Cannes International Film Festival. The 30th Meeting of Cinematographers is a selective competition for the Cannes festival, Mariam Khachvani reported. According to her, successful films from different festivals were discussed at the 30th meeting of the Cannes International Film Festival.

"The festival program includes 8 international films that have been selected based on prizes received in France and various international competitions. The festival will be
held on November 20-26, 2017. The president of the 30th meeting of the cinematographs is Carlo Cecchi. The jury members are: journalist and TV presenter Bernard de la Villardière; screenwriter, actor and director Caroline Deruas; actor Loup-Denis Elion, the comic book writer Olivier Grenson, as well as director and screenwriter Bob Swaim”, - Mariam Khachvani reported.



From the eight films featured at the festival, the winner of the Best Screenplay nomination will win the Jury’s Grand Prix named Francois-Chalais Prize. The film of Mariam Khachvani tells the story of Svan traditions and various nuances of human relations in Georgia’s remote Svaneti Region. This is the story of young Svan girl who fights for love. The world premiere of Dede was held three months ago and has since been awarded a number of international prizes. The film has received the following international awards: Karlovy Vary International Film Festival - A Jury Prize at A Class in Czech Republic; Croatia "Aventura" International Film Festival Grand Prix, Budapest film festival’s support for the next project by the director; Batumi Film Festival - Jury Prize; The prize at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival in the USA; Montpellier International Film Festival in France - audience prize; Topifest Film Festival in Poland - Best Director Award. Among the 135 films selected at the São Paulo Film Festival in Brazil, the audience named 14 best films and Dede was among them. Since November 16, the film was shown in Greek cinemas.

Karlovy Vary International Film Festival

In November, the film will be screened at the following international film festivals: Arras Film Festival in France; Inverness Film Festival in Scotland; East by Southeast Film Festival in Copenhagen, Denmark; at Fort Lauderdale in USA, at Cinema Paradiso in Hollywood; at the Malatya International Film Festival in Turkey; at the Vilnius European Film Forum SCANORAMA, Lithuania; Klaipedas, Latvia, at the Cartagena Film Festival in Spain. Dede was also nominated at the International Film Festival "Asian Oscar" which is to be held on November 23, in Australia.
