Georgian director’s film Dede to be shown in France under the patronage of UNESCO
After winning the special prize at the Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA), Georgian director Mariam Khachvani's Dede will be shown in France under the patronage of UNESCO. The film screening will be held on 12 December 2017, from -6:30 pm
to 9:30pm. The film will be screened at UNESCO's Paris Headquarters to honor APSA and UNESCO's founding partnership. The film director will attend the screening as well.

As a reminder, Mariam Khatchvani’s feature Dede was bestowed with the Cultural Diversity Award, a prize granted under the patronage of UNESCO. It is especially important that the film is shot in the historic region of UNESCO's World Heritage Status in Svaneti, Georgia’s remote highland. Architectural monuments of Svaneti, a historic region located in the northwestern part of the country, are included in a list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Georgia has received four prizes of APSA this year and it was the first victory of Georgian films at the Asian Oscar festival. Asia Pacific Screen Awards, which is attended by thousands of guests every year, is called Asian Oscars as long as it is quite significant and large-scaled ceremony.

Staged for the first time in 2007, APSA collaborates with UNESCO and FIAPF-International Federation of Film Producers Associations. Winners are determined by an international jury and films are judged on cinematic excellence and the way in which they attest to their cultural origins.

As for the film itself, Dede tells a story of young woman living in Georgia’s historicSvaneti Region, where the harsh traditions are still preserved. Dede is about love and the ancient traditions, which still govern the lives of local people. The main character of the movie is Dina, a young woman living in Svaneti. Dina’s grandfather has promised her to David, who is returning from the war. But he is accompanied by a comrade-in-arms, Gegi, and Dina falls in love with him. Here is where the dramatic events start. The film is unique as it reflects customs and culture of Georgia’s historic region and its people.
