Small berries with big benefits
16 May, 2013
Blueberries, strawberries and blackberries are the berries which are very useful for our health; they are tasty and also, very usable as the ingredients of our regular diet.
Blueberries:
* Low in fat - one cup serving contains only 80 calories.
* Packed with vitamin C - one serving delivers 25 % of daily requirement of vitamin C. (vitamin C helps to have healthy immune system).
* Excellent source of manganese (manganese plays an important role
in bone development and in converting fats into energy).
Cardiovascular and brain health, insulin response, cancer risk reduction – these are the areas where blueberries may play a big role in our health. They are full of antioxidant (molecule that inhibits the oxidation of other molecules) power, they fight diseases on multiple levels. Blueberry juice and fresh blueberries help our urinary tract too, fighting infections and they are safe for young children and for people who are sensitive to aspirin. The major benefits of blueberries are that they are tasty by themselves, with no sugar added because it is not needed .They can lower your cholesterol level. Blueberries are called ‘brain food’ and can help with Alzheimer’s prevention.
Strawberries:
Red coloured strawberries are among the most popular berries. Strawberries contain folate (natural source of vitamin B9 found in a variety of food, most often in leafy green vegetable, dried beans and peas), B vitamin that has been associated with reduced risk of several types of cancers as well as a decreased risk for birth defects. Strawberries are full of antioxidant; they also are perfect for curbing cardiovascular disease, cancer, and delaying aging. Amazing fact is that strawberries can be successfully frozen for future use and you can enjoy them any time you want.
Blackberries:
When made into jams, juices and even wine, they give us:
* Cardiovascular benefits
* Skin health
* Eye health
* Digestive tract health
* Diabetes help
* Bone health
In conclusion, I would advise you to consume fresh berries, without sugar and fats like sour cream or whipped cream. Take a bowl, put a lot of fruit into it, including berries, and a great breakfast is yours. You will feel sated and full of energy, and all that would not be overly expensive!
