01 February, 2018
In the developed world, including the United States, the demand on healthy products is increasing. The Georgian market tries to live up to this trend and deliver the main message to the customer that the products made in this country are natural. Considering this, many of us buy the products made in Georgia in order to get organic food.

Taking into account
the demand on the market, the start-uppers have already come up with rare products in our country and the most important is that they are absolutely natural and healthy. We decided to introduce a few of them.

Apple chips - Enkeni

If you're avoiding potato chips yourself and you don’t want your children to eat them either, but they still reach towards "unhealthy" stalls, we have good news for you. The founders of "Enkeni" say their apple chips contain no oil or sugar and they are also free from and salt and preservatives.

Three students of Georgian Agricultural University, Tamar Sheitnishvili, Shalva Mdzinarashvili and Nona Noniashvili created Enkeni. As Tamar explains, its uniqueness is the manufacturing technology, which has no analogy in the world.

"The apple chips in Europe are made of cinnamon and other additives, but we are different because we make only healthy products. We prepare chips with the technology of drying and we do not do any supplements, "- says co-founder of Enkeni.

Tamar is a bachelor of Business Administration and Shalva and Nona are specialists of food technologies. They started working on the project from the 3rd level, initially preparing a little chip space using their own funds, and then presented the idea in several contests, from which they received 5 000 and then 10 000 GEL.

These start-uppers invested entirely in their technologies, and eventually, StarStep Georgia financed them with 100,000 GEL.

"We have an enterprise operating in Gori and we use only high quality apples to prepare chips. When we started the business we decided that the quality of the products was the most important thing and not the profit. In the future we are going to use various other types of apples, like Golden or green apples. We also think about exporting, but we want to get to the local market first’’- Tamar explains.

The co-founder of Enkeni notes that apple chips are sold in one of the fitness clubs and negotiations are also underway with other clubs.

"By doing so, we are promoting a healthy lifestyle"- Tamar says.

Micro vegetables

During the last several months, much like in other countries, vegetables have been sold as micro greenery in Georgia. Most importantly, they are produced in urban areas, in greenhouses, and are arranged vertically. The founders of the company are Marita Genebashvili and her husband Levan Shatirishvili.

A couple of months ago, the idea of bringing and producing micro-greenery in Georgia was first introduced in the test mode and today the products are to be found on different hypermarket shelves.

"Micro-greenery is very common in many countries of Europe, such as Italy, Spain and especially in the United States, so we thought that it could be possible in Georgia as well. All the surveys confirmed that it is a healthy and useful product," - Marita Genabashvili explains.

These are the vegetables that are grown in the vertical form. "For example, we have a mustard, aragula, red cabbage, lettuce, beetroot, broccoli, peanut butter, etc. The micro vegetables tend to have a sharper aroma because of the microelements"- the owner of the farm says.

Dwarf apples

Producing quality products have already become all the farmers’ priority in our country. They are trying to turn their farms into big enterprises and export the products to local and to compete with the imported products with natural vegetables.

This is the case in Gori district’s village of Kvarkheti, where for several years the dwarf apples have been produced using an Italian technology, which is a novelty for our country.

You will be surprised and the height of apple trees is just 2-2.5 meters, which is why they are called "dwarf apples".

When the owner of the mentioned business, Zurab Gojiashvili learned about the so-called super intensive gardens developed by German and Italian scientists, which envisage more than 2,500 trees on 1 hectare territory, he, together with his partners and through the "Preferential Agrocredit" and "Plant the Future" programs, planted his dwarf apples garden on the 6-hectare area.

One of the advantages of the "dwarf apple" intensive garden is rapid and large quantity of fertility

One of the advantages of the "dwarf apple" intensive garden is rapid and large quantity of fertility, as the seedlings grown on weak sprouting produce the apples in the first year of planting.

The plant is rare for Georgia, therefore its price is high and the price of 1 kilogram in stores is 60 laris, which is about US$25.
