Georgian wine export increases by 31 percent y/y in January 2018
According to the information released by the Georgian National Wine Agency, Georgia exported 5.12 million bottles of wine to 24 countries of the world in January 2018, what means that revenue increased by 18% compared with January 2017.

In total, Georgia earned approximately $11.4 million from the sale of wine abroad, what means that the volume of exports increased by 31 percent compared to January 2017.

Export growth is notable in the following countries:

Kazakhstan – 108 percent increase (220,776
bottles), Hong Kong – 100 percent increase (15 486 bottles), Japan – 95 percent increase (26 892 bottles), Latvia – 90 percent increase (116 226 bottles),Ukraine – 55 percent increase (624 030 bottles), Russia – 24% (3 534 780bottles), Poland - 13% (177 018bottles), Israel - 12% (19 680 bottles), Netherlands - 39% (2 248 bottles).

The top five exporting countries are as follows:

Russia – 3 534 780 bottles, Ukraine – 624 030 bottles, China – 250 238 bottles, Kazakhstan – 220 776 bottles, Poland – 177 018 bottles.

At the beginning of the year, about 70 companies exported their wines abroad.

In addition, 1,06 million bottles (0,5 L) of Brandy and 8,2 thousand bottles (0,5 L) of Chacha (Georgian pomace brandy) were exported in January.

“In terms of growth of wine export, the year 2018 started positively. In general, January is considered a passive month, so it is very early to talk about tendencies according to this short-term data. More accurate picture of markets diversification and export growth will be reflected after the first quarter data” – Giorgi Samanishvili, National Wine Agency Head, noted.
