The number of visitors to Georgia's protected areas increased by 43% y/y January 2018
According to the information released by Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, in January 2018 the number of visitors to Georgia's protected areas increased by 43% and reached 16 475 visitors in total.

Half of the visitors were Georgians. According to the Ministry, 54% of the visitors are Georgians, while 46% are foreigners. The number of Georgian visitors increased by 17% year-on-year, while
the number of foreign visitors increased by 94%.

Tbilisi National Park, Kazbegi National Park and the Prometheus Cave are the most popular protected areas so far in 2018.

According to the statistics, the most visited and popular parks among the tourists in January are as follows:

Tbilisi National Park – 8,430

Kazbegi National Park – 2,480

Prometheus Cave – 1,439

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park – 886

Sataplia – 633

Tbilisi National Park

Tbilisi National Park is the first national park in Georgia, created in 1973. It is located on southern slopes of Greater Caucasus Range Saguramo-Ialno ranges and their branches, which stretch latitudinal from river Mtkvari to river Iori, at an altitude of 600-1,700 above sea level. The area amounts to 21,036.14 ha. Tbilisi National Park is the closest protected area to Tbilisi.

Kazbegi National Park

Kazbegi National Park is located in historic valley of north slopes of Caucasus Mountains. Kazbegi NP total area is 9.030 ha. Only 35% on the park is covered by forest and the rest is alpine pastures, snow-covered peaks and impregnable rocks. Despite the lack of tourism infrastructure, Kabegi National Park is one of the most visited places among the protected areas of Georgia.

Prometheus Cave is located near the Georgian town of Tskhaltubo, 20 km away from Kutaisi in Imereti region in the West of the country. Prometheus Cave is one of Georgia's natural wonders providing visitors with breathtaking examples of stalactites, stalagmites, curtains, petrified waterfalls, cave pearls, underground rivers and lakes.

Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park

The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park is located in central Georgia and creates eastern part of lesser Caucasus Mountains. The park is one of the largest in Europe. The total area amounts to 85,083 ha, which is more than 1% of the territory of Georgia. National park offers hiking, horse riding, biking, snow shoes, cultural and educational tours. The routes function throughout the year.

Sataplia

Sataplia Managed Reserve is located in Tskaltubo municipality, Imereti region, where the footprints of Herbivorous and Raptor dinosaurs of different epochs are found.

Easy pedestrian tourist routes are convenient for family travel and provide an opportunity to visit the conservation building of dinosaur footprints, exhibition hall, unique karst caves, Colchic Forest and the wild bee habitat area. A beautiful view of Imereti region overlooks from the glass panoramic construction.
