Georgia’s Anaklia seaside resort to turn into a modern city
24 February, 2018
Soon Georgia’s seaside town of Anaklia will be transformed into a modern, vibrant city. British company BuroHappold Engineering will be developing the city concept.
An agreement was signed between Anaklia City, TBC Bank and Conti Group company implementing the construction of the Anaklia Deep Sea Port, with BuroHappold Engineering. The latter one is responsible for preparing economic analyses, investigating the practicability of developing the city and making general plan.

According to Keti Bochorishvili, CEO of Anaklia City, the company has
won an international tender where around 20 companies competed.

“This survey is quite complicated, covering both economic and urban parts. Within next 3-6 months we will present our vision about how the area near the port should be developed and arranged. The first stage of the development includes industrial and logistic parts while in the next stage tourism, business center, accommodation, recreational zone and financial centers will be included”, CEO of Anaklia City noted.

Meanwhile it is noteworthy that the construction works for the Anaklia Deep Sea Port have already been launched. Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili has taken part in the construction opening ceremony. The area has the deepest coastline on Georgia’s Black Sea shore that is ideal for constructing a port.

Anaklia is a village and seaside resort in western Georgia. It is located in the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region, at the place where the Enguri River flows into the Black Sea, near the administrative border with Abkhazia . Few years ago, it was an ordinary cozy village where cows strolled in the streets and nothing catchy happened, but time by time the area started to develop and new infrastructure appeared beside old wooden houses of the locals. Now the place is also home to the largest electronic music festival in Georgia GEM Fest that is held annually.
