Number of tourists in Georgia's mountain resorts increased by 491% since 2012
The mountain resort development company under the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development has finished the 2017/2018 mountain ski season.

According to the information released by the Ministry of Economy, number of local and international tourists in Georgia has been significantly increased in recent years in the following mountain resorts: Gudauri, Bakuriani, Svaneti and Goderdzi.

According to the Ministry of Economy, in 2017-2018, the number of visitors has increased by 25 percent compared to the winter ski season of 2016-2017.

In 2017/2018, 345997 visitors were observed in Georgia’s most popular ski resort of Gudauri, which is 25 percent higher indicator compared to the previous season.

As for another famous ski resort Bakuriani, according to the 2017-2018 season data, the number of visitors increased by 15 percent compared to the winter ski season of 2016-2017. In total, 132704 ski lovers visited the resort during the 2017/2018 season.

"The data became available by installing contactless check points by the Austrian company "SKIDATA", which allows to accurately calculate the number of visitors. This system is operated on all four ski resorts of Georgia," said the Ministry of Economy.

Newly opened Goderdzi resort in mountainous Adjara Region has been hosting the vacationers for three years already. According to the 2017/2018 season data, the number of visitors here increased by 129 percent. During the current season, 10283 visitors spent their holidays in Goderdzi Resort.

Bakuriani Ski Resort

The number of visitors increased by 122 percent in Tetnuldi Resort located in Svaneti, while on Hatsvali Resort located in the same region the number of visitors increased by 122 percent. In total, 35890 vacationers visited Tetnuldi and Hatsvali during 2017-2018 ski season.

Goderdzi Ski Resort

In 2017, quite important project was implemented in Svaneti – the ropeway connecting Mestia, the capital of Svaneti and Hatsvali started operating, what significantly increased the number of visitors there. The new ropeway started operating on 23 December 2017.

Additionally, according to the Ministry of Economy, in 2011-2012, the number of tourists increased by 491% on all four ski resorts (Gudauri, Bakuriani, Goderdzi, Svaneti) of Georgia.
