Photos describing life of the poorest in Georgia

Fight with poverty should be among top priorities of every government in every country. Georgia is not an exception. Unemployment rate here stands at 13.9 percent according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia. But which of the Georgian regions is the poorest one?

According to the data, the poorest regions in Georgia are Racha, Lechkhumi, and lower Svaneti. 41 percent of the residents here receive benefit payments from the government. The lowest number of poor residents live in the Samtskhe-Javakheti
region, were only 7 percent receives benefit payments.

11.2 percent of the whole population or 418 351 people receive benefit payments as of the 1st of the January 2018. Population in Georgia is 3 729 633 people.

The second place is occupied by Shida Kartli region, were 17 percent of residents receive benefit payments from the government.

In Adjara, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Tbilisi number of residents who receive benefit payments stands below 10 percent benchmark.

Some 1 158 677 people live in Tbilisi and only 7.9 percent receive benefit payments from the government.

But words cannot describe how poor people live, some of them in an abandoned buildings and other in the streets.
