Car Re-export Tops Georgian Export List

Car re-export is number one on the list of Georgian export product in the trade statistics of January-February of 2012, Geostat, the national statistics body, informed on March 23, 2012. 

 

According to the official statistics, car re-export tops the export product list by USD 62 million and 20% of the total export in January-February of this year. Hazelnut export moved from number six to the second place on the list compared to the similar reported period of past year and accounted

for USD 30 million that translates into 10% of  total export of past January-February. Ferro-alloys traditionally remain among top three export product. It is number three this time, making 9% of total export of the reported period that accounts for USD 28 million in cash.

All in all Georgian export increased in the reported period compared to similar periods of previous years. The growth makes 126%, taking into the account that the crisis affected the 2009 data.

Azote fertilizers moved to the top ten export product list in February of this year unlike the previous month.

Oil and oil products still top the import product list. Its import amounted to USD 117 million that covers 11% of overall import in January-February of  2012. Cars are a runner up by accounting for USD 101 million that makes 10% in the total import.  Gas and carbon-hydrate air group is number three by USD 72 million and 7% of total import share.

Total trade of January-February of 2012 [without non-organized trade] accounted for USD 1.346 billion that by 15% exceeds the data of similar reported period of 2011. USD 307 million out of the figure comes to export [4% more than past year] and USD 1.038 billion makes import [by 10% more than in 2011]. Thus negative trade balance of Georgia accrued to USD 731 million and made 54% of the total foreign trade.

Share of top ten trade partners of Georgia made 67% of the total trade of the reported period. Turkey, Azerbaijan and Germany are top three by USD 191 million, USD 161 million and USD 102 million respectively in the total trade.  Germany moved from the fifth place of past January-February to number three this year replacing Ukraine that traditionally has been number three for years.

Georgia traded USD 419 million with the countries of Commonwealth of Independent States in the reported period of this year, and USD 384 million with the EU countries.
