SHARADZE’S ASSASSINATION PLANNED
“An accident was arranged for the main witness”

What is the connection between the widely discussed assassination of well-known public figure Guram Sharadze and the caches found in Samegrelo (West Georgia) - and what secrets remain hidden? A witness has turned up who says how, by whom and under what circumstances Professor Sharadze’s assassination was planned, and who was assigned to carry it out. Sharadze was shot in the center of the city several years ago. Since then there has
been speculation that the killing was politically motivated since Sharadze opposed the government in power at the time. We talked with Rusudan Sharadze, Guram Sharadze’s daughter:
R.S. – An important witness turned up in the case of my father’s assassination – a policeman, Gurika Kadaria, who says that some time before my father’s killing Megis Kardava (Deputy Head of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regional police then) summoned him and assigned him to assassinate Sharadze. From Zugdidi, Kadaria, together with two members of a special mission unit, had to arrive in Tbilisi, get instructions from Gia Dgebuadze, a high-ranking official of the Department of Constitutional Security (DCS), and act accordingly. The members of the special mission unit were Gia Pachulia and Temur Jgerenaia. For this mission Megis Kardava prepaid Gurika $5000. This sum was given to Kadaria by the uncle of Kokhta Kodua (former Head of the Second Regional Unit of Samegrelo-Zemo-Svaneti Military Police Department). The weapon for this operation was given to Kadaria by Kokhta Kodua himself; but to avoid involvement in this case, Kadaria simulated illness and to “confirm” this he went to a Zugdidi medical clinic. Then Megis Kardava and other high ranking police decided to “bring him to his senses” – they locked him up in the regional police building and started brainwashing…
They threatened Kadaria and used different dirty means to exert pressure on him. Kadaria attempted to persuade his bosses that not carrying out the assignment was indeed due to the deterioration of his physical condition. “If this is really so, then prove your loyalty to us, plant narcotics on your relative and arrest him! This will make us believe that you can obediently fulfill our orders!” – demanded the then Head of Regional Police, Tengiz Gunava, and his Deputy, Megis Kardava. Kadaria refused to carry out the order on the spot, in Tengiz Gunava’s study. Then Gunava dealt shortly with him. After that the Regional Police carried out a special operation in Gurika Kardava’s house and Kadaria severely beat him again; they checked his house and “found” the very weapon that they had given him to assassinate my father. As a result Kadaria was arrested. Afterwards, when those involved with the assassination became convinced that Kadaria wouldn’t divulge the information about Guram Sharadze’s liquidation, they set him free. Kadaria of course returned the pre-paid $5000 to Megis Kardava.
Q. – Who supplied you with this information?
A. – On 21 May 2013 Journalist Nana Pazhava accidentally learned about it from a Gurika Kadaria’s friend in Zugdidi… After that Pazhava personally met with Kadaria, listened to the details of the plan of my father’s assassination, and asked him to inform the Prosecutor’s Office. After much hesitation Kadaria agreed, and told everything to Valeri Iosava, then Regional Prosecutor.
I think they arranged an accident for Kadaria. The main thing is that last year Gurika Kadaria officially declared to the Prosecutor of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti everything that I have just told you, but as far as I know the Prosecutor’s Office didn’t interrogate anybody who was in any way connected with my father’s assassination.
I declare – after making this information public, if a hair falls from Gurika Kadaria’s or Nana Pazhava’s heads, current authorities will be fully responsible for it!... I address the new Chief Prosecutor with a request – on the basis of newly found evidence to immediately start reinvestigation of Guram Sharadze’s assassination.
Q. – Hasn’t Kadaria said why he was assigned to kill Sharadze?
A. – No; he just had to carry out the order. It was a pre-planned assassination that was to be carried out as an example, for everybody to see it. It suited the previous authorities to have influential public figures punished in public.

P.S. We contacted the journalist Nana Pazhava, who confirmed Rusudan Sharadze’s words.
