Murder in Tbilisi center
Special operation lasted for 15 hours

A special operation launched in Kazbegi Street of Tbilisi city is over. Reports say the suspect, who had a business in Tbilisi, was detained. He is suspected of killing one of his employees, after which he locked himself up in the mortgage service office on the ground floor of the building. Earlier reports said he had taken hostages, though the report had not been officially confirmed. The body of the killed employee was also
in the mortgage office.
Reports say the murder took place two days ago and later was followed by the special night time operation which ended next day, having lasted for no less than fifteen hours.
Subsequently, a few new details regard the special operation have emerged. The reports say that a Georgian citizen, who is however a native of China, killed one of his colleagues and locked in himself in a mortgage service office. Negotiations with the suspect ended in his submission to the police. The special operation was led by Deputy Interior Minister Vakhtang Gomelauri.
Georgia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has released a statement on the incident. According to the statement, as a result of the special operation, a citizen of Georgia Ivane K. was detained and transferred to an isolated cell.
The investigation established that the detainee had a conflict with his employee - Genadi Lomidze - over money and wounded him in his chest. Then he locked himself in the exchange box and threatened to kill himself. After 15-hour long talks, Ivane K. was disarmed and detained. The investigation is under way.
