Art Maestro’s Full Collection at National Gallery
On May 18, on the World Museum Day, Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery hosted an unique exhibition – the first full-scale display of the works of one of the most prominent Georgian painters who is written in the Georgian art history with golden letters – Davit Kakabadze.
The organizers of this grandiose event are the Ministry of Culture and Monuments’ Protection, National Gallery and Davit Kakabadze Foundation. The works are borrowed from private collections, as well as from the National Museum,
Kote Marjanishvili Theatre and Berardo Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Lisbon, Portugal. Several halls present Davit Kakabadze not merely as a painter but also as a contemporary thinker, photographer, one of the first Georgian art historians, scientist and one of the first founders of stereo cinema.
Davit Lortkipanidze, General Director of the Georgian National Museum, which also comprises National Gallery, said: “Enjoy this exhibition! I think that the main story about today’s event is how greatly and globally successful a Georgian man can be. We have to cherish their names and tell our future generation about them, who are great stimulus for all.”
Marina Mizandari, Deputy Minister of Culture told Georgian Journal: “This is an international project. Among them is one collage dated by the year of 1925; it was considered to be lost and it was discovered at Berardo Museum. It is with us today, as we have acquired the right to borrow it for this display. This is the first retrospective by Davit Kakabadze. The bulk of the exhibition is from the private collections that the public has not seen.”
The exhibition will be followed by interesting series of public lectures, delivered by curators and art historians from different foreign educational institutions.
Do not miss the wonderful opportunity to get acquainted with this marvelous painter. It is on until July 10, so there is around one month and a half in stock. Address: 11, Rustaveli Avenue, National Gallery.
“Every Artist must remember that art is a science”, wrote Kakabadze. His eye-catching series of abstraction, Svaneti, graphic arts and contemporary art could really serve the young painters as a handbook to learn and perceive. His viewpoint has no limits and it is the art that never ends; it’s as indelible and beautiful as the art and love in general.
