Georgia Nominates 'Moira' for Foreign-Language Category of Oscars

“Moira” by a Georgian film director Levan Tutberidze will be presented for the Oscar. This decision was taken by a special commission at the Amirani cinema, on September 12.
The film to be presented for the Academy Award was revealed by members of a special commission. Among them was a Deputy Minister for the Culture and Monument Protection of Georgia, Kakha Kandelaki; the director of the national cinema center, Nana Janelidze; film directors, Nana Jorjadze, Zaza Urushadze, Giorgi Ovashvili; actress,
Nato Murvanidze; scriptwriter Vazha Gigashvili; film expert, Lela Ochiauri and producer Noshre Chkhaidze.
“Moira” tells the story of a family living in a town by the sea. Mamuka, who has recently been freed from prison, tries to help his family out of poverty. His mother works abroad, his father is handicapped and his unemployed brother has contacts with the criminal world. With the borrowed money, Mamuka buys a fishing boat, but his fate is merciless.
The cast: Paata Inauri, Giorgi Khurtsilava, Zaza Maghalashvili, Keti Tskhakaia and others.
“Due for its world premiere late this month at the 63rd edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival, the 95 minute film - Tutberidze's sixth feature - will also be screened in October at the Warsaw Film Festival.
Tutberidze, who began his movie career in 1989 as an actor, has a filmography covering 12 works, including documentaries, TV films and features that include I'll Die Without You (2010) and The Village (2105). He also participated in 2013 in anthology film, Tbilisi, I Love You,” the hollywoodreporter.com informs.
