Georgian director selected among 6 best directors by Festival De Cannes'
Georgian director, Rati Tsiteladze has been selected by Festival De Cannes' Cinéfondation among 6 best directors from more than two hundred and fifty candidates worldwide to participate in the 34th Session of The Residence.

The selection by a jury, presided by a director or a motion-picture celebrity, was based on the quality of his already made work, as well as on the interest of the feature film project in the course of being written. Dur
ing the six months of his stay in Paris, Rati will be developing his feature film project The Empty House, after which he will present it at such important international festivals as Locarno (Open Doors), Guanajuato Film Festival (GIFF), Rotterdam (Cinemart), and Festival De Cannes.

The Empty House is autobiographical story written by Nino Varsimashvili. The film is set in Georgian capital of Tbilisi during the civil war of the early 90s. Crime, corruption and drugs are raging throughout the country. The Empty House is a true story about the war within a family. The story follows 11 years old girl, Nino, who still plays with her doll, wants to become a writer and has strongly idealized image of her father. Her only dream is to have a complete family. After 7 years of imprisonment, when her father, an authoritative ‘prison spectator’ is released, her dream comes true; finally the family, members of which represent three generations, is complete. But soon things turn out to be different from what she had been expecting and alter the life of her family forever.

Movie was already selected among the best 4 feature film projects at the 64th International Film festival Mannheim-Heidelberg, Germany and is supported by Coordinator of MMP Julek Kedzierski.

As for the director Rati Tsiteladze, here is what the official website of the festival, cinefondation.com writes:

“Rati Tsiteladze was born in post-soviet Georgia. He studied filmmaking at the Hybrid Conservatory, Los Angeles. At age 21, he won the title of World Champion in martial arts, but in 2010, when filmmaking became the overpowering passion in his life, he left his fighting career and founded ArtWay Film production. Rati directed several short films that were awarded internationally. His award-winning work Deda [Mother] premiered at the 44th Festival of Nations and was selected at around 200 film festivals.. His feature documentary project MAY 17 won the pitch award at DMZ docs, was part of IDFA 2016 and has been selected at East European Forum 2017. While at the Residence Rati will developing his feature film project, The Empty House. The project was shortlisted for Sundance Screenwriters Lab and selected at the 64th International Film festival Mannheim-Heidelberg and at 45th Kyiv International Film Festival.”

The project has also been selected at the 16th Tbilisi International Film Festival, PF.
