Georgian film wins in five categories at Hollywood Documentary Festival

A Georgian film about the country´s winemaking culture named Prime Meridian of Wine won in 5 categories at the Hollywood Documentary Film Festival. Shalva Khetsuriani earned the title of Best Producer; Tamar Bartaia received the Best Scriptwriter title, Nana Jorjadze won in the category of Best Director and Mikheil Kvirikadze was declared the best Chief Cameraman while Revaz Khetsuriani became the Best Role Player.

The film received several awards. The documentary film was declared The Best International Picture at International
Film Festival MOST 2016 in Spain.

In France it was awarded the judges’ special prize and declared The Best Oenological Film at OENOVIDEO International Film Festival.

Prime Meridian of Wine was also screened at DOC feed Documentary Festival.

The plot of the film is as follows: In the 1960s, one of greatest discoveries in wine world was the acknowledgment of Georgia as the birthplace of wine. A young man, dreaming of emigration and seeking his place in life, starts traveling the wine route: England (greatest civilization of wine commerce) and France - (Château Margaux, Château d'Yquem, Château Smith Lafitte, Château Branaire-Ducru). The discoveries during his wine adventure bring him back to the birth place of wine, his own birthplace: Georgia.

The film was jointly funded by The Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, National Wine Agency and company Marani Khetsuriani.

Prime Meridian of Wine was directed by Georgian film director, scriptwriter and actress Nana Jorjadze.

Born in Tbilisi, Jorjadze graduated a musical school (1966), In 1972 graduated architectural department at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Arts , after, in 1980 graduated Tbilisi State Theatre and Cinema Institute (1980). She is the Director of the award winning film “Trip to Sopot” in 1979. “Robinsonada or My English Grandfather” (1987) Caméra d’Or at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival and both critical and popular acclaim.

She directed several films including “A Chef in Love” (1996) which was nominated for the Oscar. Nominated for the European Film Academy Award, and won many different prizes from International Film Festivals. She was the Jury in more than 100 International Film Festivals including Cannes, Venice, San Sebastian, Karlovy Vary, etc.
