Exclusive: A little spotlight into Peggy Lipton’s life
An actress, a singer and a model; an American hippie of the sixties and wife of famous American musician and actor Quincy Jones, as well as one of the stars of Twin Peaks, Peggy Lipton lives in southern California. Very warm and incredibly spontaneous - this is the first impression you get when you first communicate with her. She was happy to hear from me and gladly agreed to an interview.

Dear Peggy before planning our interview, I looked through your
photos and I was surprised, because you are as beautiful as 30 years ago. Can you tell us about your current life?

My life is wonderful filled with grace. I own a very small home in Los Angeles with a garden for the first time ever, I can cut roses from my own backyard and bring them into the house. I love that. I am always organizing something since my space is very small. Sometimes frustrating, sometimes therapeutic. I exercise with yoga and some pilates and walking and lots of stretching. I have to stay limber. And loads of sunblock as it is quite sunnny in southern California.

Through your career you happened to be an actress, a model, a singer and also an author of the best-seller “Breathing Out”. Which one of these spheres is most of all yours?

I loved writing music as a young woman. I just LOVED music. I listened to it constantly. It makes our mind and senses expand. I always think an aspiring musician should indulge in old sounds of the great music we have had in America. A true legacy. I also like to write. The biography wasn’t easy. But it cleared many obstacles for me. Modeling is more fun now as I am older. More to express. I didn’t like it earlier at all. I was very shy and insecure. Acting when the good roles come around, can still be pleasurable. I devote myself to each part.

Everyone remembers your performance as Norma Jennings in the popular TV series Twin Peaks (1990–91). In 2017 you reprise your character of Norma Jennings in the revival of Twin Peaks. Could you look back and tell us about starring in the Twin Peaks in 1990? When did you first meet David Lynch?

I met David Lynch when I was called to his office. I arrived and he and Mark Frost, his co- writer and producer sat at a large table with nothing on it but my photo. I thought they knew the character so well and I fit it. I was thrilled. I had read the script and was so intrigued. I shot the pilot and the feeling inside me was pure excitement. I loved being Norma. Later on while visiting an ashram in India I found out it was an unexpected hit.

After your marriage with Quincy Jones, in 1974, you took a hiatus from acting in order to concentrate on your family. This is so rare in the 21st century. You disappeared from the business for your family, which is quite heroic. If you don’t mind, could you tell us about your love story?
geotv.ge
I never saw it as heroic and of course times have changed. There just was nothing better that I could possibly imagine than having a family and adoring my husband and 2 daughters. I fell in love with Quincy the minute I saw him. It was on a boat trip in the Bahamas. The timing wasn’t right until two years later. Honestly we instantly fell in love and I knew babies were coming. He had been an executive, was scoring films and was a jazz musician for many years. I was in awe of his talent. We spent many years building a home and his career together, and he wrote and produced. The times weren’t easy in terms of a mixed race marriage. But the people we loved were always around us. In 1974 when our oldest daughter was 3 months old he almost died when he suffered two brain aneurysms. Then we got married. I was a hippie and wasn’t going to, but I wanted us to be close and to know we were committed to each other. Happily he recovered fully and we had another baby. These were the happiest times of my life. We are still close and see each other often. We share the most amazing memories.
You are best known as one of the most iconic hip chicks of the '60s and '70s. Is there any film role that you would like to play and haven’t played it yet?
Well I am now auditioning for grandmother parts! But I love comedy and have worked on a number of shows with my daughter Rashida. I play her mom on TNTs “Angie Tribeca”.

My last question is about your family, about Rashida and Kidada. Do you offer them advice on their career or on their private life? Do you have any family traditions?

geotv.ge

Kidada and Rashida are my joy in life. We have supported each other through everything these last 40 years. Its hard to believe they are so grown up. But they are incredible women with great hearts intelligence and talent. Much more than I was. I admire them so much. Our tradition is just living in the same town and making sure we are always connected.
