The Georgian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the next year’s Academy Awards will be selected out of four candidates,
the Georgian National Film Center reports.
American Film Academy traditionally requested the National Film Center of Georgia to select the 2017 film for the Oscars.
On August 2, National Film Center started receiving applications and the process ended on 11 August. Considering the requirements of the American Film Academy, a total of 4 applications were submitted. Consequently, the
following 4 Georgian films will compete: "My Happy Family" (directors - Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Gross), "Hostages" (director Rezo Gigineishvili), "Scary Mother" (director Ana Urushadze) And "Luka" (directed by Giorgi Barabadze).

"In a few days, National Film Center will name the special commission members who will reveal the winner from Georgia on the basis of secret ballot. The screening of the selected 4 Georgian films will be held on 29-30 August," - The report reads.
The 90th anniversary ceremony of the American Academy of Film Awards, which is considered to be the most important movie event in the world, will be held on March 4, 2018, in Los Angeles Dolby Theater.
