Georgian Dark - Extraordinary Gothic artworks by Georgian artist
Art has no boundaries and the extraordinary masterpieces by Georgian contemporary artist Tinatin Tskhadadze is yet another demonstration of this notion. The artist at the same time works as an Associated Professor of Painting at A. Kutateladze Tbilisi State Academy of Arts. Tina’s artworks are unusual, sophisticated and simultaneously extremely modern. Her series of works named Georgian Dark represent conceptual ironic series of drawings performed in Gothic style, showing Georgian women from different perspective. In the drawings Georgian women are clad in
traditional clothes while they are engaged in various activities, most of which are coined as masculine by the society. Apart from her latest project, Tina has created many more progressive artworks that are very diverse and stand out for their individuality and drawing technique. Additionally, the artist counts a number of exhibitions under her belt both within Georgia and beyond its borders such as in UK, Iran, Turkey, Kiev, etc.

Georgian Journal contacted the artist and asked her to elaborate on her art:

"Since graduating from Academy of Arts in 90-s up today I have been working at the faculty of Fine Arts. Most of my time I spend with my students. I am very happy when my students appreciate my works. I willingly try to learn from students how not to lose the perception of present time and the original point of view on subjects. I often participate in various exhibitions and projects.

Presented series Georgian Dark is one of my latest project of graphic works on vellum in mixed media. It is a conception where you can see stories about Georgian women or rather different moments taken from their stories. These are abstract stories: something is meant specifically and at the same time it is like a phantom, you can`t catch the whole meaning. These stories include everything but prove nothing. While working on this series I played a lot with my free imagination and thinking, such as: Medea, witchery, womanhood and masculine functions, real Georgian aristocracy, glamour, arrogance and etc, etc. Some characters are general and conditional, some more concrete. At above-mentioned period of working my purpose was to explore hard and hidden sides of Georgian character and it gave me the feeling of expression that is characteristic to this drawings: black and white, laconic, gloomy and at the same time rather elegant. All this is united by humour. Series Georgian Dark is a little provocative but with a goodwill humour. I highly appreciate viewers who feel the same. It was important to me that series ,Georgian Dark visual should be contemporary even though it has past narratives.

I am currently working on new drawings for this graphic series. In the fall my solo exhibition is planned in Gala Gallery, where it will be presented this whole series Georgian Dark

Hope see you all there ...", -  Tinatin Tskhadadze said in the interview with Georgian Journal.
