‘I’ve been painting them since long time ago and I try to learn the stories of the families who lived in each of them. I believe that the nature of a human being is always reflected in the houses they live’.

Revaz Adamia has won the World Art Competition and held eight personal exhibitions in France - four in Paris, one in Cherbourg, one in Marseille, one in Portbail, and one in Carteret. Exhibitions were held also in Trabzon and Istanbul, Turkey. One of his paintings is kept in the Paris museum. The holder of many prizes jokingly says he is more famous in Paris than in Tbilisi.

Many typical old Georgian houses have perished or severely damaged throughout the country. Although some of them are still preserved in some villages or in the Ethnography Museum of Tbilisi, they are still at the risk of disappearing if certain measures are not taken both from the government and the locals’ side.

Traditional oda house in western Georgia

-This is one of the most beautiful, amazing architecture in the world and is distinguished by its decorations and artistic beauty. My paintings were created in Georgia, Paris, Trabzon... I have several of my paintings at home and others are in various museums, - Adamia says, - many of them are totally destroyed, but some of them turned out to be stronger. I drew Irakli Uchaneishvili's Oda in Abasha (town in western Georgia) last year. It’s in a very bad condition.

There was a time when some famous musicians, artists and actors were gathering there. I painted Georgian actress Veriko Anjaparidze’s oda too, which was quite damaged by the disaster. I also have painted Georgian writer Konstantine Gamsakhurdia’s house-museum. In Turkey, on the territory of the historic Lazika, there are a few different odas too. As we fight for saving the Svanetian towers we also have to fight to save the Colchian odas.

Colchian oda house

In the water-swamp of Colchis the Odas stood on pillars and poles. People created houses that were fully appropriate of the climate. The Colchian Oda should be a relic, a historical artefact. Cellars and barns stood beside Odas too. I saw the similar complexes in several places in Abasha and they are so well arranged that even an artist will be surprised. These odas were created by some very talented peasants.

More than 99 percent of the oldest Colchian civilization samples are underground now as time and enemies have buried them. Plutarch writes: "When the Scythians invaded Colchis, they extinguished the life there for the next six hundred years. ’’
