Unforgettable voice from Georgia
Enjoy variations of a beautiful Georgian song by three different generations. Inola Gurgulia is a Georgian composer and poet, who lived in the past century. Her musical performances delight both young and old generation. She established vocal-instrumental trio “Samaia”. The trio used to perform songs written by Inola Gurgulia.

She never tried to become popular but to let folks enjoy her songs. Thanks to one of her friends, we have an honor to listen to
her songs. In her last days, she was asked to perform songs accompanied by the guitar. And, thus her voice was recorded.

The musician is distinguished by her manner of performing songs. Her performance was a kind of accord style singing which was particular to Georgian folk and urban songs. “Perform my songs to make me immortal” – says Inola Gurgulia to the children in her will. The next generation, her daughter Ia Shugliashvili is a well-known actress not only in Georgia but abroad. She played one of her most memorable roles in a Georgian film “My Happy Family”. The film was directed by Nana Ekvtimishvili and Simon Groß. “My Happy family” reflects the life of a Georgian woman and people around her from a very interesting perspective.

One of the most dramatic scenes of the film is when the main character – Manana ( performed by Ia Shugliashvili) plays Inola Gurgulia’s song “You are so good, you are so good”. The song tells about the complaints of a woman about her lover in a lovely way. He cannot appreciate her enough and she asks him to cover her as a sculpture after she’s dead. The lyrics resonate with the dramatic life of the characters throughout the film.

Another variation of the song is performed by a young singer, the winner of a popular Georgian TV show “Only Georgian” (The contest on performing only Georgian songs) Sofo Batilashvili. Her performance earned great praise and love from the listeners. The young singer’s performance proves that Inola Gurgulia’s songs and lyrics will never age. Enjoy her performance:
