Georgia was granted the Status of a Host Country at the “River Bank Festival” in Frankfurt

Between the 24th-26th of August 24-26 at the Frankfurt River Festival (which is visited by 3 million tourists annually) Georgia will be presented with the status of a Host country. In 2018, Georgia has been honoured to be invited as a guest to the Frankfurt Book Fair. Throughout the year, various cultural and literary events are held and this festival is one of its components and important parts.

The project is supported by the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and
Sport and organized by the Georgian National Music Centre .

Concerts are scheduled over the 3 days of the festival. Modern Georgian music groups and singers will take part: such as the Jazz-Sextet Quintessence, Ensemble "Iriao", KORDZ / Tsagareli & Strings, Luka Nakashidze and Misha Urushadze, Nino Katamadze and Insight, Nikoloz Rachveli & String and Braze of the National Symphony Orchestra; Children's Ensemble "Little Georgica" and Children's Folk Ensemble "Lappars".

River Bank Festival is one of the main events in Frankfurt

Within the framework of the festival, Georgian folk art will also be presented. as well as Interactive and spectacular elements of pantomime and motion theatre.

There will be a Puppet opera performance for children. "Souvenirs from Georgia", will involve children in the process of preparing Georgian souvenirs on the theme of the Georgian alphabet; Exhibitions of Georgian craft samples will also be arranged.

Within the festival, there will be tasting sessions of Georgian food and wine.

The Georgian National Tourism Administration and Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will also participate in the festival.

Information about the Participants:

Ensemble "Iriao" is a Georgian musical group. Their unique music is a mix of jazz and modern music elements and improvisations. The group has previously performed at the Java Jazz Festival in Indonesia, Alfa Jazz Festival in Ukraine, as well as festivals in Poland, the Baltic states and Austria.

KORDZ / Tsagareli & Strings is a collaboration between two Georgian musicians. Georgian composer, and electronic music player Alexander Kordzaia (KORDZ) and violinist Giorgi Tsagareli met for the first time at Basel Academy in Switzerland. Their collaboration began in 2017, with the idea of combining the voice and energy of Giorgi Tsagareli’s string orchestra and electronic music rhyme and energy.

DJ Luka Nakashidze and Misha Urushadze are prominent Georgian performers of electronic music. Within the festival they will present electronic music.

Baby puppet opera "Small Btskala" The idea of creating a puppet opera for kids belongs to Nodar Andghuladze and Guria Zakareishvili, who are the managers of Andguladze’s Vocal Foundation. The aim of the puppet opera is to develop and support the listening of good music from an early age.

Ensemble "Lappars" is a kids’ choreographic ensemble established on the basis of Ensemble “Erisioni” and celebrates its 13th anniversary this year. The Ensemble has participated in festivals in many countries, including Bulgaria, Greece, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Italy and others. In 2015, the Ensemble had a huge success in Barcelona, where the Grand Prix was received at the International Folk Festival.

The festival is visited by 3 million tourists annually

Ensemble "Little Georgica", is based in the sixth school, and has been participant in many international festivals and competitions. In 2013, the team earned a second place in the youth competition "MUZITE" in Bulgaria, and in 2014, won the first prize at the National Song Contest. In the same year, "Little Georgica" participated in the International Choral Festival. Rati Julakidze is the artistic director of Little Georgica and the conductor is Nino Kumsishvili.

Pantomime Theater - the establishment of the pantomime genre in Georgia is connected with Amiran Shalikashvili. In 1962, Amiran Shalikashvili created a pantomime group of interested students and presented its first independent work - "pantomime novels"; Theater has performanced in Turkey, Germany, Poland, Spain, Malta, Cyprus, Greece and Syria.

The motion theater - a magical space where stories are told by motions and music. The Theater was founded in 2001 by Kakha Bakuradze and is a synthesis of drama, pantomime, movement, opera, folklore, circus, illusion and contemporary music. Extreme performances are presented in open spaces and inside the building.

Jazz-Sextet Quintessence was founded in 2012. The idea of creating this group of young singers belongs to Buka Cartosia. The creation of the group was primarily a synthesis of jazz and ancient Georgian folklore. The group has had number of performances and participated in various festivals in Vienna, Budapest, Chicago, New York, San Francisco, Leipzig, and Jurmala.

Nino Katamadze and Insight, Nikoloz Rachveli & String and Braze of the National Symphony Orchestra - Nino Katamadze and the group Insight's sophisticated musical style, with its high professional standard and commitment, have brought it huge popularity far beyond its homeland. They usually perform in around 100 concerts across the globe, annually. The National Symphony Orchestra musicians will take part in a concert with their Conductor Nikoloz Rachveli - a composer and pianist who has collaborated with such famous musicians as Sting, Bjork, Chris Bot, Liza Fischer, Michel Legrand and others.
