International festival of Verdi to be held in Georgia

It has just been agreed that the International Festival of Verdi will be held in Georgia. The three year agreement to stage this festival was recently signed with the Opera House of Italy, which is the only owner of the license of the International Festival of Verdi.

At 12:00, today an announcement about this event will be made at a a press conference at the Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet Theater’s Blue Hall.

The event will be led by the Georgia’s First
Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Mikheil Giorgadze, Artistic Director of Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet Theater Badri Maisuradze, President of the Verdi Festival and the Director of the Parma Opera Theatre Anna Maria Meo.

According to the agreement, Georgia will be officially authorized to conduct the Verdi Festival in Tbilisi and in different cities. The agreement also provides for tours by the Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet Theater to the Verdi Festival in Parma.

It has already been announced that in 2019, Parma will be the European Capital of Culture , the project is within the framework of the European Union’s Program "Creative Europe"; Next year’s, planned tour by  Tbilisi’s Opera and Ballet Theater to Parma and Busetto is the part of this project.
