Georgia as Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair
The Frankfurt Book Fair is the world’s biggest book fair. Every year thousands of publishers, literary agencies, writers and those involved in the sphere gather and showcase their works to international visitors. The 500-year-old fair is visited by over 400 000 guests from all over the world.

Every year, the fair chooses a country as guest of honour. The chosen country has a chance to introduce all its cultural and intellectual treasure to the
international audience. The honourary country has a special opportunity of putting out its works through the major theatres, concert halls, galleries, cinemas, libraries and literary salons all over Germany.

The honourary country of 2018 is Georgia. Between the 10-11th October, Georgia will be given a chance to show its cultural heritage as well as its modern masterpieces. At the culmination of the fair there will be speeches from the highest Georgian political figure and a famous Georgian writer.

A presentation will take place after the speeches of the German Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, the President of the Book Fair and other honoured guests. Meetings are planned with Georgian writers as well as interesting discussions on political, cultural or social issues.

One of the most important parts of the Georgian showcase will be a culinary program. The program aims to introduce the concept of Georgian culinary to the guests of the fair. It will include various culinary activities and dinners at the pavilions of the fair.

Georgia will be introduced to the international guests with the concept: Georgia made by characters. The story of Georgia will be told through the beautiful characters of the Georgian alphabet. Cultural events of 72 Georgian writers and German translations of about 200 Georgian literary works will also be presented at the fair.
