Georgia being a Guest of Honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair 2018 named as one of the major events of the year by Federica Mogherini
Georgia was granted an incredible title this year. The Frankfurt Book Fair which is one of the biggest and most significant cultural and intellectual events all over the world chose Georgia as a guest of honor of the 2018 fair. Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy named twelve major events of 2018. Georgia being the honorary country of the Frankfurt Book Fair was contained in the list.

“In October I had the honor
to open Frankfurt Book Fair, the most ancient in the world. This year’s guest of honor was Georgia, a close and important partner for the European Union. And it was really moving for me to talk about what binds us together as Europeans, our culture, our identity – or rather, our thousands of identities, which live together as part of a greater European identity.” – said Federica Mogherini about the event.

During the fair, German theatres, galleries, libraries and concert halls hosted Georgian works. In order to indicate that Georgia was the guest of honor of the event, Frankfurt metro stations were decorated with the posters of the Georgian alphabet. Georgian alphabet was the main concept through which the country appeared before the international audience.
