Charitable Art Exhibition-Auction in favor of Writer Gia Mariamidze
22 March, 2012

Europe House hosts a charitable art auction aimed at medical rehabilitation therapy of disabled writer Gia Mariamidze.

Mariamidze, a Gori native , was wounded by a stray bullet as a young soldier near his hometown. He has been bedridden for nearly 20 out of his 40 years with serious physical and psychological deterioration resulting from the injuries, immobility and lack of treatment. Two years ago his mother borrowed money to buy him a second-hand computer which linked him to the outside

world. He started to type with one finger as he had one hand he could still use. He has his blog and he shares his short stories on a number of different websites. The organizers of the exhibition have collected approximately 50 paintings, photographs, sketches, drawings and other art pieces from Tbilisi artists and art collectors with the aim to sell them at the auction. The art items by Lia Bagrationi, Vaghtang Bugadze, Levan Chogoshvili, Gia Gugushvili, Karlo Kacharava, Zaza Lodia, Tengiz Mirzashvili, Gio Sumbadze, Maia Sumbadze, Kako Topuria, Mamuka Tsetskhladze and many more will be sold at  the exhibition-auction.

The auction will begin on March 22, at 18:30. Visitors can view the art pieces from March 20 to 24 in the Europe House, which is located on Freedom Square.
