“Tbilisi reminds me of Geneva” – Rusudan Petviashvili
“Everyone is surprised whenever Geneva is compared to Tbilisi, since Geneva has a lake in the middle, but its landscape is mountainous, just like Tbilisi’s. This city also reminds me of certain Parisian streets, with its narrow roads uphill. In general, Tbilisi’s coziness, its atmosphere and its peculiar homeliness remind me both of Geneva and Paris” – replied famous Georgian artist Rusudan Petviashvili when asked about places in Georgia that she considers special.

– My second favorite city after Tbil
isi is Batumi. I opened a gallery (“Rusudan Petviashvili’s Art-Café Gallery”) there a few years ago and very soon this city grew very close to my heart. In the evening, live music is played there, and the outside café has its own grand piano. Batumi’s Piazza is a great place as well – its literature café is amazing, and so is the boulevard. The good vibe I get from Batumi leads me to compare it to Nice or Paris.

– How do you introduce your foreign friends to Georgia?

– First of all, I take them to Mtskheta. It is Georgia’s second capital. It resembles a European city and is notable for how cozy, peaceful and gratuitous it is. Its surrounding nature is also amazing. You can go round the entirety of Mtskheta on foot; I frequently ascend to Jvari and enjoy the view from there. It is the city where I can rest – whenever I am overwhelmed by problems, this is the place where I go to unburden myself. I’d say that Mtskheta is one of the most peaceful, tranquil and spiritual places on Earth, with its peculiar aura.

– What about Tbilisi? What city does it remind you of?

– Geneva… Everyone is surprised whenever Geneva is compared to Tbilisi, since Geneva has a lake in the middle, but its landscape is mountainous, just like Tbilisi’s. This city also reminds me of certain Parisian streets, with its narrow roads uphill. In general, Tbilisi’s coziness, atmosphere and its peculiar homeliness remind me both of Geneva and Paris. Paris is also a city after my own heart, just like Berlin.

– What’s your opinion on Georgia’s mountainous resorts?

– I am crazy about Svaneti. A lot of things were built there recently, and Mestia is an amazing city. Kazbegi is also amazing – we celebrated my husband’s birthday at “Rooms Hotel” together with our friends, and had an amazing time. Kakheti has its share of beautiful places. I absolutely adore Bodbe and its monastery complex. Telavi, Kvareli… I love Kutaisi too, with its small cafes and beautiful places surrounding the Bagrati Cathedral. Its center underwent a great renewal. There are many good spots in Kutaisi, such as Gelati and Sataplia; they attract many tourists. My foreign friends like them a lot.
