The hidden beauties of old Tbilisi
11 March, 2016
It is said that the beauty of Tbilisi lies in its details. Behind newly built skyscrapers and renovated buildings there is the real treasure of Tbilisi that conveys the city’s true history and culture as well as serves as a mirror of what the country has undergone in past centuries. In one word, while visiting Georgia’s capital don’t forget to walk around the old part of Tbilisi, that in comparison with Abanotubani area has not been touched with a renovation paint-brush
yet. The labyrinth of narrow streets in historic Sololaki District takes you to mystique old courtyards, representing the eclectic mix of European and Asian cultures.

Check out the gallery below:

Wooden balconies covered in vines that look down from old ramshackle brick-build homes with doors from which the paint flakes and rusty spiral staircases creates some kind of mystique atmosphere and transports one into 19th and early 20th century world. If you are adventure enthusiast then you can wander around this fascinating place, take photos and discover the true spirit of Tbilisi.

It is highly recommended to tour around this area both during the daytime and at night, since in the light the unique architectural details are more visible, while in the dark the stroll accompanied with the live music and noise coming out from the small art cafes and restaurants located side by side seems more mysterious and magic. Although, this forgotten part of the city looks beautiful at present, yet it should be said, that almost all buildings need careful renovation in order to maintain their original appearance and unique facade, but when talking about repair works, of course, it does not mean transforming the classical and Art Nouveau architecture into a colorful Disney film set.
