10 places in Georgia that turned out to be a new discovery for tourists
Some 10 years ago, these beautiful places of Georgia had very few visitors, but now local as well as foreign tourists are very actively visiting them.

As Nato Kvachantiradze, chairman of the Georgian Tourism Association reports, these places have become popular not only among foreigners but also among Georgian tourists.

Martvili Canyon should be particularly distinguished, because this year it had
the most visitors. This beautiful canyon that is located in the Martvili Municipality, in the Abasha River basin, surprises the viewers with its mysterious beauty. This place was previously less known to the tourists, yet over recent years its popularity increased and a lot of people have been visiting the site. Correspondingly, Martvili Canyon comes in the first place among top sites of Georgia.

Prometheus Cave is also very popular among visitors. This unique natural monument is located in Imereti Region’s Tskaltubo Municipality. Its length is 1,8 km and it is formed at a depth of 40 meters from the surface of the earth. An hour-long route passes through the halls of Argonauts, Medea, Prometheus and Iberia halls, ending with a 15-minute walk on the Kumi River shore. The cave attracts large number of tourists annually.

Dashbashi Waterfall is yet another very popular natural site of the country. It is located in the Tsalka Municipality, in the area of the village Dashbashi, 1400 meters above sea level. The breathtaking waterfalls in the canyon create a completely different micro-landscape and attract many visitors.

Vashlovani Protected Areas have become a new tourist attraction lately. There are several interesting places in the area, including the Eagle Gorge, which is distinguished by its predatory birds. The valley is covered with canyons. There are mud volcanoes, which is very interesting and rare for Georgia. The canyons in the Vashlovani Protected Areas are often similar to Grand Canyon.

Mtirala Mountain attracts a lot of tourists in Adjara. This place is very interesting in the adventure tourism. Mtirala National Park operates one and two-day tourist routes. The picnic places are arranged there, and separate places are found for making bonfire. The National Park offers visitors hiking, equestrian, scientific and eco-tours that end with ascending to the Mtirala Mountain.

Gurgeniani Waterfalls - this is one of the most popular places in Georgia, located in Lagodekhi Distric of eastern Georgia. If you are ready for adventure and beautiful nature, you must visit Lagodekhi Reserve and Gurgeniani Waterfalls.

Vardzia's surrounding area and the wonderful village of Saro in Meskheti have become popular among tourists in recent years. The village is located at 1 480 meters above sea level. There are crumbling mud huts seen on the horizon and it is difficult to imagine that once people used to live there.There are many visitors at the Meskhetian terraces as well, where grape is grown. These terraces have been restored in recent years.

Borjomi-Kharagauli Protected Areas do not lack visitors either. The travelers especially like the hiking paths from Borjomi to Kharagauli. Here are some of the best places for picnics. This is an ancient historical area.

Tusheti - is a unique highland region in north-east Georgia, which is of great interest in ecotourism. Besiodes amazing landscape the region is notable for its medieval towers and ancient culture. Visitors in Tusheti are mainly hosted by family hotels. Guests are provided with horseback service, guide services, camping facilities and hiking spaces, bicycles, backpacks, sleeping bags and tents and so on.

Rabat fortress is very popular among tourists too. The fortress is a historical place in Georgia’s southern town of Akhaltsikhe. It was the main city of old Samtskhe and the residence of Samtskhe Atabags, governors. The fortress was rebuilt few years ago, although this place attracts tourists with its old and unique paintings.
