Skies Over Svaneti Georgia
Georgia’s remote highland region Svaneti that is known almost to every foreigner has been featured by a popular website named Must Do Travels. The website is promoting uplifting and useful content related to the travel and adventure lifestyle industries. This time Georgia’s historic province became the main focus of the online media. The recently published beautiful video depicts Georgia’s winter paradise Svaneti, a picturesque historic region in the northwestern part of the country.



Svaneti stands out for its unique architecture,
still preserved ancient traditions and breathtakingly beautiful nature. This is the place where Medieval castles meet modern ski resort Tetnuldi. This historic part of the country boasts a number of towers, built between 9th-12th centuries. Some of them are available for rent, so that the tourists can spend a night there. In the province there are dozens of medieval Georgian orthodox churches and various fortified buildings.

Svaneti is a popular destination among tourists during summer season, yet after the new Tetnuldi Ski Resort was opened and the infrastructure improved, the place became a real hub for winter sports lovers and travel enthusiasts. In winter Svaneti is equally beautiful and transforms into a winter wonderland with high mountain peaks and medieval towers.

Situated on the southern slopes of the central Caucasus Mountains and surrounded by 3,000–5,000 meter peaks, Svaneti, in particulral Ushguli Village, is the highest inhabited area in Europe.

Svaneti has two parts corresponding to two inhabited valleys:

Lower Svaneti (Kvemo Svaneti) on the upper Tskhenistsqali River; administratively part of Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti; main town Lentekhi.

Upper Svaneti (Zemo Svaneti) on the upper Enguri River; administratively part of Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti; main town Mestia.

Architectural monuments of Upper Svaneti are included in a list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
