Rediscovery of Tusheti through Georgian artist’s mythical conception
Inspired by a 2 week trip to Tusheti, Georgia’s mountainous region, a self-taught 26 –year-old artist Dato Simonia has come up with a new fascinating concept to let us be part of his adventurous trip in a historic area.
Ordinary photos could not express all myths, fairy creatures, gods and angels that he envisioned throughout the journey.Walking through Tusheti was just a beginning of his wonderful journey which ended with mythological creatures being depicted in his photos. The mixture of techniques
has created concepts that can simply serves as a magical guide throughout Tusheti for anyone interested in visiting Georgia’s historic highland. Pictures tell more than words do, so let us guide you to Georgian artist’s fantasy land in the country’s one of the most remote places..

You cannot pass a stone without remembering that each of them has its angel. Cokla is one of them, sitting on the stone and collecting the sun’s ray all day long to keep his stone warm on cold nights.

Walking up to Tusheti Mountains is not an easy task, but it is definitely going to be a safe journey. Its long, zigzag ways are blessed by a traveler’s ever vigilant angel Tursikha. If you cannot find him at first, do not panic, keep observing, he is somewhere hiding in the mist. Still it is worth mentioning that the road to Tusheti is considered as one of the most dangerous roads in Europe.

If you notice white rocks over Tusheti towers, you should know that they not only ward off evil souls, but also take care of the cracks of ancient Towers. Ocala is one of them.

Dragons are said to be good or evil. Some of them even guard the treasure. But Nakuda Treasure is an angel protecting children. He never gets tired of saving children from falling off the cliffs.

Dead souls are not forgotten too in Tusheti. Ilurs have been lingering on the graves of Tushi folks. Don’t be terrified by their drowning faces. They are said to be feeding off the poems imprinted on the graves all the time.

Surrounded by mountains, Tusheti has an abundance of gills finding their ways into the river Aalazani. Tusheti villages are located at the height of 1800-2400 meters above sea level. The most frequently visited villages and tourist sites are regarded Omalo and Shenako, yet there are a plenty of other authentic communities in the area.
