Discover Kutaisi
Kutaisi is one of the most interesting and beautiful cities in Georgia. It was the capital of Georgia in the middle ages. Today, Kutaisi serves as the legislative capital of the country. Kutaisi has plenty of places of interest to offer its visitors:

1. Bagrati Cathedral – it was constructed in the 11th century during the reign of Bagrat III after whom the Cathedral is named. The cathedral was damaged by Ottoman troops in the 17th century. In 2012, the masterpiece
of medieval architecture was restored. It is now little used for religious services, but attracts many pilgrims and tourists. The cathedral provides a perfect viewing platform over Kutaisi.

UNESCO has recognized the Gelati Monastery as a World Heritage Site. It has been a major religious and intellectual centre for scientist, philosophers and theologians. The monastery was built during the Byzantine Empire, and reflects the Byzantine style of architecture.

The former president, Mikheil Saakashvili intended to decentralize power from Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia to Kutaisi and to promote the city and boost its economy. The building is covered with glass as a symbol of openness and transparency.
