Zugdidi – is one of the major cities in Samegrelo. The city served as the administration centre of the first President of Georgia, Zviad Gamsakhurdia and the Supreme Council of the Republic of Georgia.
There visitors can visit the Botanical Garden and the Zugdidi Shalva Dadiani –the State Drama Theatre both established in the 19th century. The infrastructure within the city is well-developed including cafes and restaurants which serve local dishes.

Dadiani Palace - is located in Zugdidi. It was founded by the ruler of Samegrelo Levan II Dadiani. It served as the residence of successive Dadiani rulers. The palace includes the Queen’s Palace, the Prince’s Palace, the Botanical Gardens and the Kari Church (the first stone church in the region). The Palaces provide a museum and library which preserve the monuments of cultural heritage including the Holy vesture of the Virgin Mary and objects related to the Emperor of France Napoleon Bonaparte. The palace complex is considered to be one of the most attractive monuments in Georgia.

Martvili – is a small town in Samegrelo. There is a monastery situated upon its highest hill and constructed in the 7th century. It was named after Saint Andrew who preached Christianity and converted the pagans across the Samegrelo region. Its construction is related to an oak tree worshipped as an idol of fertility. In the 10th century, the monastery was reconstructed and at present it preserves frescos of the 14th, 16th and 17th centuries.

Balda and Martvili CanyonsMartvili canyon used to be a bathing place for the Dadiani family. Waterfalls and green water provide a breathtaking view. The canyon can be experienced via boat as well as on walking tours. Balda canyon is another wonderful place for swimming and relaxing in Samegrelo. There is also the Kaghu waterfall at Balda canyon. It is considered a masterpiece of nature.
