A traveler advises to visit Kakheti for the Georgian wine tasting

Georgian wines such as Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, and Saperavi are said to be even better than the familiar international varieties.

To observe ancient traditions of wine making, travellers should visit Kakheti, the eastern region of Georgia, which is 2-hour drive from the capital Tbilisi. Kakheti is a
unique place not only due to its wine-making traditions but also because of its’ ancient monasteries and cave cities. Built in 6th century, Aalverdi Monastery and the Davit Garejia cave city are must see places in Kakheti.

Signaghi a cobblestoned renovated town in Kakheti overlooks the region. Apart from local restaurants, hotels and guest houses, the Signagi Museum gives visitors a chance to see some unique pictures of the genius Georgian painter Niko Pirosmani.

Qvevri, are traditional earthenware vessels which are made for fermentation, storage and ageing of traditional Georgian wine. In Kakheti there are vineyards and Qvevris present in almost every house. It is also recommeneded that the village of Napareuli be visited. There visitors can find both a winery and a museum ''Qvevri and Qvevri Wine''. The museum will introduce wine lovers to the ancient traditions and history of Georgian wine production.
