The More Away

The more away, the more I love!
In you I love my dearest dream,
It feels as if in Eden lives,
Untouched as if the sun‟s
bright beam.

You differ, maybe, from that dream,
I never grieve about it now!
My aching heart is apt to wish
You were an angel white endowed.

Let ardour strange all burn my heart,
Let seas be filled with tears I shed,
To trust the miracle of Love,
And ravings of a lover mad.

Galaktion Tabidze (translated by Innes Merabishvili)

Where the pyramids stand in silence,
when the sun is being married,
I shall lie down on the sun-coloured sand,
where the pyramids stand in silence,
I shall want you,
your eyes,
your arms,
your tenderness…

Paolo Iashvili, In the Pyramids (translated by Melashvili Tamta)

...When I met your husband he was wearing a helmet.
He split my head with a single chop.
Come, put your hands on my wound, embrace it.
I can’t see you, the outflow has emptied me,
Like blood from beef, steam from the cauldron
Or from the valley of Kartli, a rising mist.
Come,
It is I calling you after a thousand years,
Reduced to ashes by your body's lightning.
Roses are opening again – it is our sign –
Our time has come for another meeting.

Giorgi Leonidze, Once More Meeting the Kipchak (translated by George M. Young)
