International Women’s Day – Georgian women conquering the world
Georgian women are recognized on the international stage. There are numerous Georgian women making successful musicians, models, pianists, designers, directors, actresses or businesswomen. Look at some of them:

Anita Rachvelishvili

Anita Rachvelishvili is a famous Georgian mezzo-soprano. She debuted at the Opera in Tbilisi as Maddalena in Rigoletto and as Olga in Eugen Onegin, subsequently joining the ensemble of the theater in the fall of 2006. She has since performed as Carmen at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the
Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Bayerische Staatsoper München, the Staatsoper Berlin, the Seattle Opera, the San Francisco Opera, etc. Georgian opera singer Anita Rachvelishvili was crowned as the best classical music artist of 2018 by the New York Times.

Khatia Buniatishvili

Khatia Buniatishvili, known as the “Beyoncé of Piano” was born in Batumi (a seaside town), Georgia. Khatia was blessed with an extraordinary and impressive talent to play the piano and gave her first concert at the age of six. She has been invited to foreign guest performances in Switzerland, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Austria, Russia, Israel, and She has appeared at many prestigious festivals including Verbier Festival, Progetto Martha Argerich, Gidon Kremer's Internationales Kammermusikfest Lockenhaus, Gstaad Festival, etc.

Katie Melua

Katie Melua, the Georgian-British singer, and songwriter was born in Kutaisi, Georgia, which was then part of the Soviet Union. In 2017, Katie Melua worked with the Georgian Gori Women’s Choir. They released an album called “In Winter”. It includes various enchanting compositions. Katie Melua married James Michael Toseland in 2012. He is a former English motorcycle racer and a pianist and singer-songwriter of the band Toseland.

Marisha Urushadze

Marisha Urushadze is a Georgian model. She has become an exclusive model of Gucci in September 2018 and is representing the brand at various catwalks. The Georgian model also took part in the brand’s advertisement video. In 2016, the famous magazine vogue wrote that Marisha Urushadze is one of the most demanded models in the world. The model with curly hair and delicate looks deserves particular attention. She has recently participated at the Mugler Fall 2019 collection show.

Rusudan Petviashvili

Rusudan Petviashvili is a Georgian painter. She started painting at the age of 2. A 13-year-old Rusudan exhibited her works in different towns of France and, finally, in Paris. “National Fairy Tales of Georgia” and the medieval epic poem “The Knight in the Panther’s Skin” are decorated by her illustrations. The presidential palace in Tbilisi is also replete with the illustrations of the painter. Rusudan Petviashvili is listed in “2000 Famous Persons of XX Century”, the book published by the Cambridge Biographical Centre”. Her works of art are large-formatted, highly-complicated one-touch drawings that amaze Georgians as well as the international public.

Nana Ekvtimishvili

Nana Ekvtimishvili is a Georgian film director. The internationally recognized films “My happy family” and “In Bloom” are directed by her co-working with Simon Gross. In 2017, Nana Ekvtimishvili was named among 9 new must-watch directors by The New York Times. Her films have received awards at the 2014 Sarajevo Film Festival in Bosnia and Herzegovina, International Young Audience Film Festival 2013, Berlin International Film Festival 2013, etc.
