5	Differences between a country and a state of Georgia
Georgia is internationally recognized as one of the most interesting and popular destinations. However, there are still people in the world who mistakes Georgia the country in the south Caucasus for Georgia, the state in the U.S. The confusion is not surprising as both places share the identical name and people find it hard to differentiate between them. Georgian Journal will introduce you to 5 reasons why you should not confuse two Georgia-s with one ano
ther.
Georgia
Georgie (country)

1. Geography

Georgia, the country is located in the South Caucasus. Located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe, it is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan. As for Georgia, the state, it is situated in the Southeastern United States bordered by Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Alabama as well as the Atlantic Ocean.

2. Name origins

The name of the country ‘Georgia’ is believed to originate from the Persian word “gorg” which means ‘land of wolves’. It is also believed that the name is linked to St. George as the patron angel has a significant place in the country’s culture. While Georgia, the state was named after King George II of Great Britain, the Province of Georgia covered the area from South Carolina south to Spanish Florida and west to French Louisiana at the Mississippi River.

3. Language

Georgia has its own language and script. It belongs to a Kartvelian language group (Svans, Mingrelians and the Laz). Georgian scripts are among the only 14 existing scripts worldwide. Georgian scripts include three writing systems: Asomtavruli, Nuskhuri, and Mkhedruli. The third system – Mkhedruli or designated for wider society is used as a literary language. The first two are used in church services – all of the books used in church and liturgy are written with the Nuskhuri and Asomtavruli script. Meanwhile, Georgia the state shares the official language of the U.S. American English (Indo-European languages) with English Alphabet (originated from Latin alphabet).

4. Climate

Georgia's climate is influenced by subtropical influences from the west and continental influences from the east. The Greater Caucasus range moderates local climate by serving as a barrier against cold air from the north. Warm, moist air from the Black Sea moves easily into the coastal lowlands from the west. While Georgia, the state is primarily characterized by a humid subtropical climate. Hot and humid summers are typical, except at the highest elevations. The entire state, including the North Georgia mountains, receives moderate to heavy precipitation.
