International Sinecures

International Sinecures

I have in my happiest days ‘toiled’ for the United Nations Organization, and I know exactly how it feels and smells – simply perfect! Working in an international organization is an undisputed piece of cake:

a fat pay-check, exotic trips around the world, relaxed ambiance, coffee breaks that are on the house, pleasurable banters on regular basis, free medical assistance and sense of happy incumbency in a never-ending sinecure. Is there anything else on earth that a human being might need

for a complete bliss? If you get a job like that, just go ahead and tell the world very loudly that you were born with a silver spoon in the mouth. Even better than inherited wealth! I can swear before my God that I don’t begrudge those who get lucky enough to be content freeloaders like that, but there is something that bothers me real bad and nasty. The effect! I have a feeling that a clever sitting back is the most popular pose in those hundreds of non-governmental or intergovernmental organizations which are fortunate enough to be charged with doing an international service in various parts of the world. I also have a feeling that their dominant thinking is not the improvement of a human life around the globe but the ways how to stay on the job for as long as possible, especially when close to the time of retirement from the happy sinecure. Letting the sleeping dogs lie seems to be the most elevated and sacred motto for them. Callously living in peace and isolated haven may never be jeopardized for those international incumbents. God forbid making any unwanted waves! The apple-cart that is carrying their stability and well-being may never be upset because that’s exactly where all their stocks in trade are being used most carefully and skillfully. International incumbents do their job slowly and imperturbably. They are usually composed and steady in their unflappable treatment of issues that are routinely sitting on their hands. What matters most is to impress. Who? Peoples, nations, governments, involved individuals, fellow incumbents and even family members. They have to necessarily make an impression and carry on that way all the time until the bell tolls to inform that the retirement from the blissful sinecure is ripe. Meanwhile, hunger and disease are still rampant around the Earth, millions of refugees and displaced persons are suffering in a wretched exile, the rogue nations and politically funny and criminal ethnic formations are hammering away their dire methods of robbing and looting, the global climate is persistently triggering doubts about our physical existence, the organized crime feels as cozy as never before, the drug habits of the mankind are never mitigating – just vice versa, the war lords and terrorists are serenely contemplating their disastrous acts against humanity, territories of certain countries are being torn apart and unabashedly grabbed by nations who are left to their own vicious devices. All this being true, isn’t it high time for the lucky international incumbents to wake up from their tranquil perennial hibernation and take the destructive bulls by the horns? Yes it is! No doubt it is!
