NY Resolutions by Category
Let us break down the New Year’s resolutions into several major categories: personal, familial, national and international. This done, let us expose the resolutions at those four particular levels on behalf of an average citizen of Georgia and the world as such, myself playing that responsible role.
On a personal level, the most significant NY resolution is to believe that a person’s individual rational or irrational behavior could be a direct contribution to good or bad life of that individual,
his family, his country and the entire world because we all are part of the whole, which cannot be built without the part that is made by that particular individual. To put this in a simpler way, I am ready to watch my steps and put my act together when necessary, and be ready for this healthy logic at all possible times. On a familial level, the individual has to be resolute about the perennial integrity of his family, its wellbeing and the good health of its members, doing this with the help of tireless work and absolute dedication to its ultimate goal – unfading sense of happiness of its individual members. In a word, the resolution is to say No to a conjugal strife, mutual connubial recriminations and the devastating divorce, which usually poisons a man’s and a woman’s life, no matter how wrong or right they might be in the conflict, and certainly kills the delight of childhood for kids. On a national level, my unequivocal NY resolution is to be a law-abiding citizen, an honest taxpayer, a patriot, a reasonable elector, a useful professional, a faithful churchgoer, a dedicated believer in the future of my country and a determined creator of that future. And I am not being formal about this resolution. I am just going for real to make all that workable. On an international level, the situation is more complicated. One can certainly make any NY resolution on this level but there is not a big chance to make it accomplishable. For example, I might make a resolution to pull Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali Region back into Georgia but Russia is not yet ready to renounce its arbitrary unilateral decision of recognizing their independence. And without Russia’s good international will and her wised-up national reasoning the fulfillment of that major resolution seems to be quite unachievable. I might resolve to see Russia become a little bit more democratic in the New Year but the hope is almost zilch to see her run fast in that direction. I might promulgate my NY resolution of putting Georgia into the NATO family as a fulltime member but the materialization of that resolution might be many more New Years away. You see how easy it is to make a promise on an international level and then to deliver a result on that promise? On the other hand, just imagine how perfect the world could have been if all the above resolutions were realized and put to life as a set of good things. So why not to try?
