Starting from Scratch

Starting from Scratch
We all know very well that starting something from scratch is a huge pain in the neck. This is equal to starting that something right from point zero. This practically means that there is nothing in your hands to start with, to rely on, to play with and to develop – just an empty place to build the cherished ‘something’ on.
And God only knows if the ‘something’ you are trying to put up yields in
to an outcome you want to receive. In a word, the situation called ‘start from scratch’ is charged with such financial, temporal, physical, moral and psychological tension that eschewing it might give you a very good chance to live longer. If this statement is convincingly accurate, why then every newly entering political force in Georgia wants to start from scratch? Are they masochists – just all of them? Why does it always happen so that anything done by the previous governments in this country is taken by the incoming rulers as nonsense? This probably happens because all those bygone deeds are identified with the efforts of the abominated outgoing governments only, not the entire Georgian nation. All our political experience has it very deep that those who were at the wheel before are bad guys, and that the bad guys can only do bad things. That’s why the eagerness for the rejection of all that has been done before! The question is what to do with the spent money out of the country’s budget, the depleted national energy, the used public time and the already undertaken efforts of our people? Should we qualify all those things as our wasted assets? Should we be draining all the formerly created material goods and spiritual property down the tubes, forgetting that it is the people of Georgia who counts, not the governments that come and go? Every new government starting from scratch has become a political formula which is already sitting firmly in our national blood. Closing the eyes on the past good things and snubbing the deeds of previously functioning powers has become a natural feature in the process of changing the governmental hands in Georgia. This is an enormous gaffe of a national magnitude, and we have to somehow get rid of this egregious vice in our politics, no matter how unintelligent and disgusting the previous governments seem to the new governments, and no matter how judicious and flawless the new governments are trying to present themselves. If past and current ruling powers continue treating each other like sworn enemies whose only treasured aim is mutual destruction, this country will always be starting from scratch, wasting time, energy and resources. The unreasonable belittlement and unthoughtful trashing of human efforts to build is unwise and can only bring about the inevitable devastation. Maintenance and taking good care of what has already been done, continuation of efforts to keep in place what is valuable, persistence in doing something even better in the future is what we need to embark on without wasting any more time. This nation cannot any longer afford those phony games of ignoring the good points of an opponent and boosting the ones that seemingly belong to those who are the real-time power holders. They are of course only temporarily in power. What a goddamn curse – starting it all from scratch! Always! Just always, without a single exception!
